A Flicker of Light
A FLICKER OF LIGHT” is an intimate look at the life, family, and personal diary chapters of a Chinese man who has been suffering from depression for years. The main character, Ian, claims that he has fully recovered from his two-year journey with depression. However, as he delves deeper into his inner world, he realizes that the fight against this clinical disease may never end as long as life keeps rolling on.
In order to capture the most natural moments and emotions, and to show more respect for the subject’s situation, the director used a “Low Efficiency” shooting plan which involved keeping the cameras rolling at Ian’s home for months to select the best shots. This approach makes the film touching and authentic, showcasing nothing but honesty.
Finally, this short documentary film was proudly awarded BEST DOCUMENTARY at VSFF in 2023.
